La vida consiste en algunas decisiones y muchas casualidades. Algunas veces la vida nos deja extraviados, y otras puede resultar una mezcla perfecta. Mi encuentro en Argentina con Kalle Brolin y Graciela Taquini es un ejemplo de una feliz unión entre las decisiones y las casualidades. En Paralelas y Meridianos aprovechamos la estancia simultánea en el mismo punto geográfico para realizar un intercambio artístico entre nuestros respectivos países. A través de nuestra selección de videos tres personalidades con sus distintas trayectorias, se cruzan para formar esta muestra de video arte contemporáneo. El resultado es una exhibición variada, en la que los aportes de talentosos artistas, tal vez, - eso esperamos - puedan expandirse en diversas direcciones.

En mi trabajo con video he usado el puesto en escena y elementos de video performance. Través mi selección de videos he intentado formular algunas líneas desde mi obra a otros videos noruegos que operan en este mismo campo. Poner en escena como una estrategia e investigación artística de la identidad, permite vincular los distintos videos. La escena y el artificio, son usados para estudiar los marcos sociales y culturales; así sea en relación con el tiempo, como en ”Liminal Inception”, de Hjørdis Kurås, o con el espacio como en ”Je veux pleurer comme Soraya”, de Birgitte Sigmundstad, o con la historia y la cultura como lo utiliza Astrid Johannessen en ”Szep Jana”. La naturaleza y lo natural son considerados como una piedra angular de la identidad noruega. En estas obras la naturaleza está representada de diferentes maneras, pero ninguna de ellas pretende ”lo natural”. Al contrario, lo artificial en sí mismo es una herramienta importante, y el ojo del espectador nunca deja de ser considerado.

Life consists of some decisions and many casualities. Sometimes this blend leads you astray and othertimes it happens to give a perfect mix. My encounter with Kalle Brolin and Graciela Taquini here in Argentina is an example of casualities and decisions in a happy union. In Paralelas y Meridianos we use this moment of simoultaneous presence at the same geographical spot to create an artistic exchange between our respective countries. Through our selection of videos three different backgrounds and personalities are worked together into an alloy of contemporary video art. The result is a varied screening with contributions from many great artists that maybe - and hopefully - points in too many directions.

Through my selection I have intented to draw some lines from my own work to other norwegian videos that are under the influence of video performance. In some of my videos I use staging and elements from video performance, and I wanted to show works that operate within this field. Staging as an artistic strategy and investigation of identity is linking the different videos together. The staged and artificial is used in an examination of social and cultural settings, whether it is through staging in time as in “Liminal Inception”, in space as in “Je veux pleurer comme Soraya” or in culture as in “Szep Jana”. Nature and the natural is often regarded as a cornerstone in norwegian identity. In these works nature is represented in different ways, but none of the works are pretending “the natural”. On the contrary, the artificial is in itself an important tool, and the spectators eye is never forgotten.
